Journeys of Healing: Embracing Adventure and Faith After Loss

Inspired by my sister Lynn's sense of adventure I have traveled a lot the last 3 years

Before I lost Robert I loved road trips. Way more than getting on a plane. But when I lost him, I lost this sense of adventure and willingness to take the weird and winding roads to strange backwoods cemeteries and new friends and family. I found myself struggling to leave my home. The sense of going that I inherited from my mother seemed to longer be part me. I lost the love of hiking or walking just for the picture. I didn't want to leave the safety of my little hometown cocoon. My sister Lynn became more than just a sister. She has been a vital part of the healing that grief can create. Her spirit of adventure and willingness to sometimes take the road less traveled has helped inspire me to remember my love of road trips and traveling. She and my mother pushed me out of my comfort zone and forced a few road trips. When leaving my home, I was filled with anxiety and a desire to get back home almost as soon as I was packed in the car.

Lynn's passion for adventure nudged me toward paths I never imagined walking again after Robert's death. Her pursuit of life's beauty inspired a bold step—my trip to the awe-inspiring landscapes of California and Oregon. This pilgrimage, guided by Lynn's spirit, my mom's car and knowledge of the area became a testament to finding strength and solace beyond my comfort zone.

"Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the Lord your God goes with you; He will never leave you nor forsake you." (Deuteronomy 31:6). This verse whispered courage to me, mirroring my sister's adventurous call. Each step into the unknown was guided by a blend of Lynn's energy and God's comforting presence, leading me to horizons filled with healing.

The majestic coastlines of California and Oregon were sanctuaries, cradling my broken heart in God's presence. The vast ocean and towering cliffs spoke of endless possibilities and renewal, mirroring His boundless love. This journey transformed my grief, guided by a sister's love and the promise of faith.

Through this experience, I've learned healing comes from daring to move forward and embracing the adventures God lays before us.

"For I know the plans I have for you," declares the Lord, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future." (Jeremiah 29:11).

This promise became my anchor, reminding me that God was paving the way for healing even through loss. Lynn's influence revealed the power of venturing beyond comfort to discover God's grace in unexpected ways. The journeys inspired and taught me the healing power of faith and the courage to explore new paths.

Reflecting on my paths and those ahead, I'm filled with gratitude for my sister. Her adventurous heart led me to see the world's beauty and God's depth of love. These experiences underscore that every step outside our comfort zones brings us closer to healing and the limitless love of our Creator.

Looking forward to future adventures, I'm reminded that with God as my guide and Lynn's spirit as my muse, the journey ahead is filled with growth, healing, and deeper faith. Enriched by every venture beyond the familiar, this path unfolds in beautiful and unexpected ways.

Pictures were made possible by Lynn's inspiration to move forward!
